The earlier version of the portal was launched in 2014 and was very restricted to the technology available at that time. The new platform introduces number of new services while being significantly faster in load times. This is important in the type of setting where Wärtsilä operates, customers don't always have a huge amount of internet bandwidth, especially when they are sailing on vessels.

Wärtsilä Online makes it easy to find product and service-specific information and documentation, procure spare parts, track deliveries, plan and oversee service and maintenance activities and much more. It is a secure and reliable platform for collaborating with Wärtsilä quickly, directly and transparently.

Initial business research, interviewing, prototyping and visual design had been done in the earlier phase of project. I was working closely with other designers and a team of developers, building Wärtsilä Online further by designing new features with customer, maintaining a component library for faster development time, and creating prototypes for testing user experience.
New design uses existing Wärtsilä brand guidelines, icon family and a shared Wärtsilä UI component library as a base. Some key features of the service are:
